Twenty-year-old Sam Addison is marked by both good and evil.
Sam is plagued by thoughts of his parent’s violent and mysterious deaths, making survival during a major economic collapse in the United States difficult to endure on his own. Before he loses all hope, an ethereal being visits him in multiple dreams and visions, trying to ignite his once strong faith. Sam tries to forget what he saw, but it’s something that simply can’t be ignored when he finds an odd marking burned onto his wrist.
He becomes consumed with unanswered questions about his purpose in life and what the mark could mean or even do. Until, he meets the beautiful Ashlin Ammon, the adopted daughter of the popular presidential nominee, and who some call the “savior” of the dying country, Marcus Ammon, who sees a lot of himself in Sam. Once invited to join the campaign trail as an assistant for Marcus, Sam is pulled into a war no man could ever survive. He is left with a choice that will not only change himself, but mankind forever.
Addison Mark edition by Matt Kuvakos Paranormal Romance eBooks
Addison's Mark is a book that could make an impact in the YA audience. It is entertaining, well-written, intriguing, and doesn't shy away from asking some of life's most important questions.First, let me address some of the weaknesses, as no book is without them. I've seen in some of the other reviews mention of overused metaphors, similes, and comparisons. I would only agree to an extent. At certain times, I did take notice of the many comparisons used for description and it did pull me out a bit. BUT, mostly, they were used effectively and painted a good visual in my head. This could change from reader to reader, though, so it's really only constructive criticism from a reader's standpoint.
Additionally, there were a few times when the visions/dreams confused me to a degree. It was only a few times. Other than that, some of the BEST parts of the story took place in that element.
Ok, no more criticism.
As far as pacing, it's pretty well-paced for the majority of the story. In the third act, though, it is much more tension-filled and page-turning. Considering all that is going on in that third act, it was handled very well. I was entirely engaged and couldn't put it down.
The themes and questions posed in this book could really get the YA audience thinking, which is an awesome thing for a book to do. It's not only fun to read, it digs into some important stuff that we all deal with or have thought about at one time or another. The ending really has a nice way of answering some of the big questions that I held through the book, but not without keeping a little mystery and suspense to linger and lead into a possible sequel, which I anticipate.
Not many people can write their FIRST book this well and this effectively. So, well done Matt. I'm hoping this book blows up and gains a lot of attention!!

Addison Mark edition by Matt Kuvakos Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Addison's Mark by Matt Kuvakos
Addison's Mark by Matt Kuvakos is a compelling YA book from a young first time author.
Young Sam Addison struggles through tough economic times after he witnesses the violent death of his parents. As if that weren't enough, Sam is visited by confusing, divinely inspired dreams that seem to have deep meaning. He struggles to make sense of his life and as many young people do, find purpose. He meets Ashlin Ammon, the beautiful daughter of presidential nominee, Marcus Ammon and is invited to join Ammon on the campaign trail. As his dreams become more consuming and a mark appears on his wrist thrusting him into situations he can't avoid. He is forced to make a choice that will change him and mankind forever.
Characterization in Addison's Mark is strong. Sam comes across as a typical young person. His thoughts and actions blend well. The reader gains character insights, both through Sam's actions and his dreams. Ashlin, her father Marcus and other characters appear equally well drawn and enhance rather than detract from the story.
The plot starts out slowly but improves in the second act, putting the reader in the midst of the tension-filled quandaries of the story's cast. Addison's Mark effectively uses faith and questions of character to boldly make the point that we, along with Addison, must make our mark on society, no matter how much we may wish to avoid it.
Stylistically, Addison's Mark is rife with overused metaphors, similes, and comparisons. The many descriptive comparisons have the effect of pulling the reader out of the story. There were a number dream sequences dreams some of which were confusing. Because a good deal of plot information is communicated through these dreams some additional editing to clarify what is dream and what is waking information would be helpful.
Addison's Mark is a first novel from a young author that is full of drama and skill. I look forward to Matt Kuvakos' next work.
For me this was one of those stories that kept you up past your intentions turning page after page eager to find out what would happen next. I found it easy to visualize the scenes because of the descriptions provided. As the plot thickened the story picked up pace. I found myself at the end thinking about when I would be able to read the sequel. The supernatural realm discussed throughout were some of my favorite parts of the story. Overall good read, I would highly recommend it
To me, this book really emphasized darkness vs. light in the spiritual realm of warfare. A heavy read filled with a lot of metaphor - all beautifully illustrated! Matts writing style is relatable and real.
My favorite quote "You tempters need to understand that my king is also yours." (Illustrating lightness speaking to darkness)
I will definitely be buying copies for my friends to read and am excited for the sequel!
This was an easy read that was fun and exciting. At the end of each chapter I was wondering what was going to happen next with Sam. It was a bit confusing as some reviewers have mentioned, but I was never pulled out of the story. I love the symbolism within the entire story as well. There were a few grammar mistakes, but nothing crazy. I'm excited for the sequel and I hope for more answers.
I received my order promptly and for a good price. This book was awesome and had me hooked from the first page to the last. It was full of political intrigue, thrilling, mysterious and even had a bit of romance that was not inappropriate. How refreshing! It ended leaving me want to know more. I hope that Matt Kuvakos has a sequel to this coming out soon!
